State Park Ceremonies: Permits and Rules
The most popular elopement locations in Hocking Hills are inside the state park — Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, and Rock House. You can get married at any of them, but you need a permit.
What you need: A Special Activity Permit from the ODNR Division of Parks & Watercraft. Processing fee is $40. Contact the park office at (740) 385-6842 ext. 250 to request a current-year application. The park stays open. This is the single most important thing to understand. Your ceremony happens while the park is open to hikers. People will walk past, through, and sometimes stop to watch. Ash Cave is the most popular elopement spot. The paved, wheelchair-accessible walkway leads to a massive rock overhang with a waterfall. It's dramatic, accessible, and photographs beautifully. It's also the most visited cave in the park, so plan for an early morning ceremony if you want relative quiet.
Old Man's Cave is the park's most iconic location. The one-way loop trail system means your guests need to follow hiking rules. More foot traffic than Ash Cave but more dramatic terrain.
Cedar Falls offers a waterfall setting that's slightly less trafficked. Rock House has a unique cave-like interior. Cantwell Cliffs and Conkle's Hollow are options — confirm with the park office which locations they allow for ceremonies.
Marriage License

No waiting period, no blood test. License valid 60 days, usable only in Ohio. Both parties appear with photo ID and Social Security number. If previously married, bring a certified divorce decree or death certificate.
